Bihl+Wiedemann is a medium-sized, owner-managed company that was founded in Mannheim in 1992 by Jochen Bihl and Bernhard Wiedemann. We develop and manufacture complete automation solutions for functional safety and data communication in machines and systems. Our products are used worldwide in a wide range of industries, for example by leading manufacturers of consumer and capital goods.

Leading with AS-Interface since 1995 Bihl+Wiedemann is the technology leader in automation and safety technology with AS-Interface (ASi). We have been significantly involved in the development of all ASi generations. In 1995, our ASi Master was the first to receive a certificate from AS-International e.V., the ASi organization with 300 national and international partners. We were also a pioneer in the market launch of ASi-5 devices in 2019. With the new ASi generation, larger data volumes can now be transferred much faster. Since 2019, our ASi-5 modules have enabled the simple and convenient connection of a wide range of IO-Link devices, for example - and since 2020, they have provided a cost-effective solution for complex requirements in drive technology.

We have been one of the leading providers in the field of functional safety with ASi Safety at Work for almost 15 years. We were the first to introduce ASi-5 safety devices in 2022. They allow many safe and non-safe signals to be used under just one ASi address.
